Revenue was down 32.0% from $5.5 million in March 2023. However, the monthly total was 47.8% ahead of Mississippi’s $2.3 million in February this year. The year-over-year drop in revenue came despite a small drop in handles. Mississippi players spent $44.5 million betting on sports in March, down 4.7% from $46.7 million in 2023.

On a monthly basis, Handle led the $31.4 million bet in February by 41.7%. As for where players bet, Mississippi’s coastal casinos remain the most popular places. During the month of March, $30.2 million was betted at coastal casinos, generating $1.9 million in revenue.

Caesars launches on-site mobile
Earlier this month, Caesars Entertainment launched its mobile sports betting product at Mississippi-based Harrah’s Gulf Coast Hotel & Casino. Caesars is the second operator to provide on-site mobile – BetMGM started mobile betting on Beau Rivalry a few years ago.

Players can download the Caesars Sportsbook Mississippi app and place a bet. Betting through the app is only allowed if users are actually on the Haras Gulf Coast.

The casino’s retail Caesars Sportsbook facility has been betting on Hara’s Gulf Coast since 2018. Players in Mississippi are limited to making mobile bets within casinos affiliated with online operators.

However, a new law could change that and open the market. Under HB 774, it would allow people to move anywhere in the state and allow up to 26 licenses linked to commercial casinos in Mississippi.

Lawmakers failed to reach an agreement on what digital sports betting should look like, and the bill was sent to a conference committee. Committee members were nominated last week. The meeting is scheduled to end on May 5, and it takes the committee less than two weeks to reach an agreement.
