“The plan to build a casino at Mount Airy Lodge in Poconos cleared another regulatory hurdle on Tuesday night, two days before the state’s gaming control board holds hearings on the plan and its rival seeking a license.

“Meanwhile, Pocono Manor, a standalone casino construction license competitor capable of holding up to 5,000 slot machines at Mount Airy, has published a study showing that convention businesses held at hotels could generate up to $200 million in revenue from local businesses.

“The Paradise Township Zoning Board unanimously decided to grant Mount Airy three differences. One is to improve the coastline of Resort Lake, another is to help improve the road leading to the proposed casino, and another is to build a parking lot and pond to prevent rainwater runoff.

“The company, owned by Scranton businessman Louis Nandaples, plans to improve the lake’s coastline and build two staircases and a path leading to the water’s edge.
