Son-Heung-min-Hwang ‘scoreless’ at full-time as Tottenham suffer theatrical upset at Wolves

Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Hwang Hee-chan were held scoreless in their opening matchup. The two teams shared a point.

Tottenham lost 1-2 away to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the 12th round of the 2023-2024 English Premier League (EPL) at Molineux Stadium in Wolverhampton, England, on Nov. 11 at 9:30 p.m. ET.

Hwang Hee-chan continued to push for an equalizer with penetration and physicality up front. In the 23rd minute, after receiving a long pass from behind in front of the Tottenham penalty box, Hwang was brought down in a tussle with Tottenham defender Ben Davies, but the play continued without a foul being called.

In the 31st minute, Hwang tripped over Tottenham’s Johnson near the touchline on the bench side of the field, and as he got up, he knocked Johnson to the ground. The referee gave both players a verbal caution to settle the matter. In the 33rd minute, Wolverhampton’s Mario Lemina’s right-footed shot from the right side of the Tottenham box was saved by Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario with a flying save. Spurs went into halftime with a one-goal lead.
