Hurley Re-signs Connecticut University for KRW 69.2 Billion for refusing Lakers coach

Coach Dan Hurley, who led the University of Connecticut to the top of American college basketball, renewed his contract for $50 million (about 69.2 billion won) for six years.

The Associated Press reported on the 9th (Korea Standard Time) that Hurley re-signed with the University of Connecticut a month after rejecting the NBA’s LA Lakers’ offer to head coach.

The university explained that Hurley will receive $6.375 million next season alone, including bonuses from lectures and consulting, in addition to his annual base salary of $400,000.

Hurley recorded 141 wins and 58 losses during six seasons at the University of Connecticut. The Lakers reportedly offered Hurley 70 million U.S. dollars for six years last month.

Coach Hurley admitted, “The proposal was tempting,” but said, “I decided to stay at university for those who support me.”
