Gary Preetlow Urges Accelerating New York Gambling Expansion

Rep. Gary Pretlow has long supported legalizing, expanding, and liberalizing the gambling industry in New York State, which is often considered to be blocked by many gambling companies across the country.

The highest bidder is still not in the room
Despite the slow momentum, plans for casino properties are gaining traction on a scale too large to stop at this point. But, especially with the delay in the bidding process, Mr. Pretlow is feeling the urgency with no tangible progress. 토토사이트 순위

In 2022, New York approved a decision to introduce three state casinos, a casino bill sponsored by Representative Pretlow and signed by Governor Kathy Hochul, Sen. Joseph Adapvo, another gambling advocate. Sen. Adapvo also recently proposed revising New York’s daily fantasy sports rules.

Surprisingly, gambling is one of the few issues that is not divided along political lines, and the political parties agree most of the time. In an op-ed for The Junckers Times, Mr. Pretlow highlighted the issue of delays in the bidding process, arguing that the arrival of downtown casinos should be rushed to avoid costly delays.

“The Black and Brown families are leaving the Downstate area in droves because of limited job opportunities. School administrators are struggling with smaller budgets, and commuters are facing long commutes due to aging infrastructure,” he said.

Rep. Pretlow is aiming for a resolution and hopes to roll out the project as early as 2025. However, observers cite factors such as NIMBYism and bureaucratic red tape as potential causes for delays in urban casino development.

New York needs to start “flipping cards.”
The state can’t afford to wait, given its huge $9.5 billion fiscal deficit. Awarding three licenses could ease financial pressure, generating $1.5 billion in revenue for the state, with each license costing $500 million. But license fees are subject to change, and New York may be considering raising them to $1 billion per pop.

Rep. Pretlow thinks this is possible, but stresses that the state must take action. Bureaucratic delays have hampered progress, delaying the bidding process for more than a year.

Representative Pretlow said the upcoming casino project in New York could significantly impact the state’s deficit and create tens of thousands of construction and permanent jobs. But for those benefits to materialize, the administration needs to prioritize and move forward.

Apart from turning to the public and the media, both Senators Adapvo and Fritlow must submit new proposals seeking approval to tender their casino licenses by July 31, 2024. The two lawmakers are not worried that the company will miss the mark because they think everyone interested is already ready, but they should start the bidding process.
