A direct consideration of skill-based casino games

It’s full of action. It’s fun and it has a fascinating story. It’s exciting. So whether you get money or lose, you just have fun playing a real video game.”

Now, before you call your favorite hardcore gamer friend and plan a trip to AC later this month expecting to come home with a bag of cash, remember: This is a casino game with bets ranging from a minimum of 50 cents to a maximum of $20 per game. Danger Arena and other action, sports and racing games, the game company, plan to launch in the first quarter of next year, each with more than 10,000 game maps with different levels of “achieveability.”

Gravoyes likens it to a blackjack. Even a highly skilled blackjack player would run into a situation or a hand that he would not win.

“But the more skilled the player is, the more often he will get the highest salary,” Gravoyes said.

Graboyes, 43, helped launch the game company just two years ago. Just a year ago, Graboyes completed the first phase of his $3.25 million fundraising campaign, securing investments from a variety of prominent technology, finance, and gaming companies and executives. Over the past 12 months, Graboyes has developed games, implemented compliance, and is now ready to bring them to casinos.

In addition to launching in Caesars Atlantic City, Hara’s Resort Atlantic City and Bali’s Atlantic City this fall, Gravoyes said the VGM will also be “quick to launch” at other properties. He hopes to stay at Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Resort casinos in Connecticut and Nevada casinos in early 2017 by the end of the year.

Graboyes admitted that high speed is “never heard of before,” but he said it wasn’t a surprise. There’s something he called a “mismatch in the entertainment experience,” as the average gamer doesn’t play slot machines.

“I’ve worked as a businessman for 25 years and never got a solution for such a clear problem,” he added. “Gamers are stereotyped stories. And while it doesn’t matter, we’ve evolved and are looking for a more sophisticated experience.

“No one delivers the VIP experience better than a casino. And at the end of the day, GameCo is what it is. It’s about creating a VIP experience for these very underserved audiences.”

Make it underserved and oversized. Gravoyes explained that he did a four-part test to determine a potential audience for a tech-based casino game, and asked questions such as: Are you 21 or older? Are you in the top percentage of household income? Do you play video games? Do you visit casinos?

They found that 9 million millennials checked all four boxes with a total of 23 million zencers and 6 million baby boomers.

“In addition to the real market, casinos agree that these games will attract a lot of new gamers,” Graboyes added. “For the casino, it’s a huge opportunity to attract a whole new audience. They will take turns staying in hotels, spending money in bars and restaurants, and gambling in different areas.”

As for Danger Arena, Graboyes said the study found that the average bet would be between $4 and $5. It features the first controllers designed for a casino environment, and the game gives players a quick tutorial before the actual session starts to make sure the controllers are working.

He said he likes the three-position merry-go-round because casinos are truly “plug-in and play.”

“All they have to do is pull out the slot machine and replace it with our unit,” he said. “It’s a complete turnkey.”

This fall, Atlantic City will have seven three-position carousels for a total of 21 positions. But this is just the beginning when it comes to Gravoyes.

“Casinos don’t run out of space,” he said with a confident smile. “After five or 10 years, I don’t see why half of all casino floors aren’t filled with technology-based video games. That’s the realistic goal. We’re just getting started.”
