Choi Seung Woo-Garcia moved to co-main event
Seung Woo “Sting” Choi (31) will compete in the first UFC co-main event of his career. Park Joon Yong (33), who was originally scheduled to headline the co-main event, withdrew from the event due to health issues.
Choi tipped the scales at 65.8 kilograms for the featherweight division at “UFC Fight Night: Remos vs. Zandirova” at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Nov. 20 (ET). His opponent, Garcia, weighed in at 65.5 kilograms.
Choi will fight Steve Garcia (32, USA) in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night: Lemos vs. Zandirova, which will take place at the same venue on May 21. The co-main event is the second most important bout of a UFC event, taking place just before the main event.
After the weigh-ins, the two fighters stood face-to-face and glared at each other from behind. After the photo pause, Garcia extended his hand first, and Choi reached out to shake it as they walked off the stage.
Expect a fireworks display from the aggressive strikers. Garcia (15-5) is an aggressive striker with 12 of his 15 wins coming by way of (T)KO. His nickname is “mean machine,” a reference to a speeding car, and he looks to rush his opponents and finish them. He is on a roll with three straight TKO wins.
Seung Woo Choi (11-6) is another aggressive fighter who is second to none. His main weapon is a powerful double hook that knocks his opponents down. “He’s brave,” Garcia said. Even when he takes damage, he comes at you, and that’s when he’s dangerous,” Garcia said of Choi’s aggression.
However, Garcia also pointed out the monotonous pattern of Choi’s weaknesses. “There are certain attacks that he’s really good at. He knows he can do a lot of damage with it, and he knows he can do a lot of damage with it. But if he does it too often, he can fall apart because his opponent expects it.”
Choi Seung-woo also planned to capitalize on Garcia’s aggressive nature. “Steve Garcia has a lot of momentum and is a tough fighter,” he said. ”I prepared 안전한 파워볼사이트 my game plan accordingly. “He’s got a lot of momentum and he’s tough, so I think I’ll have a lot of opportunities.
“I’m on a three-fight winning streak, and none of my opponents have been good strikers,” he said, ”so we’ll see if I can do that to anyone.”
Park was originally scheduled to compete in the co-main event, but after the weigh-ins, he was unable to compete due to health concerns. As a result, his bout with Brad Tavares (USA, 36) was canceled.
Two more Korean featherweight fighters will be on the main card of the event.
“Korean Superboy” Doo Ho Choi (33) will be looking for his first win in eight years against Bill Alzio (35, USA). Both Choi and Alzio weighed in at 66.2 kilograms.
A victory is a must this time. South Korea’s only UFC Hall of Fame inductee, Doo Ho Choi, has been in a bit of a slump with one win and three losses in his last four fights. He was dominant against Kyle Nelson (33, Canada) last February, but was docked a point for striking, resulting in a draw.
Choi (14-1-1, 4 KOs) said of his opponent: “He’s experienced, and he’s a big guy at featherweight. But other than that, I don’t know what else he has,” Choi said of his opponent, adding that he was confident that ”overall, I’m better in every aspect.”
“Korean Tiger” Lee Jung-young (28) will face ‘Lion’ Haider Amil (34, Philippines/USA) in the opening bout of the main card. Lee weighed in at 66 kilograms, while Amil weighed in at 65.8 kilograms.
“When I saw my opponent, I didn’t feel threatened at all and I felt I could finish him in the first round,” said Lee (11-1) after the weigh-in.
The main card of “UFC Fight Night: Lemos vs. Zandirova,” featuring the Korean UFC featherweight trio of Lee Jung-young, Doo-ho Choi and Seung-woo Choi, will air live on tvN SPORTS and TVING on Nov. 21 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
