As Thailand makes a breakthrough in its trial to legalize gambling, the Treasury will take the lead in important research exploring the possibility of legalizing casino games.
16 Additional Institutions To Consider Research
The finance ministry will thoroughly review the study of the House of Representatives with 16 other agencies in line with the direction of an “emergency letter” sent by the Cabinet Secretariat earlier in the week.
The list includes the National Commission for Economic and Social Development, the State Council Office, the Royal Thai Police, and the National Buddhist Office.
It will also be consulted by several ministries, including social development and human security, tourism and sports, legal affairs, agriculture and cooperatives, higher education science research and innovation, transportation, culture, labor, public health, industry and education.

The casino study was approved by the Cabinet a week ago after it was passed by the House of Representatives in late March, according to an IAG report.
17% tax on GGR recommended
Casino research advises a 17% tax on total gaming revenue. This would make casinos one of the lowest tax systems in the region.
The license is initially valid for 20 years and can be renewed every five years.
Locals will have to pay an immigration charge of an undetermined amount.
Larger casino complexes require at least $2.7 billion in investment.
Last week, the Cabinet approved the study, recommending a series of joint investments between private operators and the Thai government, similar to Macau’s concession model.
The Cabinet also suggested that the integrated resort should be located near the international airport for the comfort of international visitors.
The country may see its first integrated resort open in 2029, according to a note from Maybank.
This translates into Thailand legalizing casino games ahead of Japan, where MGM Resorts International’s development of the Osaka Unified Resort is scheduled to be completed in 2023.
In early April, Thailand announced it had blocked more than 25,000 online gambling platforms since October 2023 in an ongoing crackdown on unlicensed online gambling.
