Macau Introduces Casino Play Zone for Foreign Players, Cuts Taxes Up to 5% To Attract Overseas Customers

Following the recent announcement by Macau authorities that it will gradually open the Chinese administrative district to foreign and mainland visitors, Macau will create a separate zone on the casino floor and a dedicated gambling chip that can only be used by players from abroad.

The decision represents part of the new gaming tax system, which will take effect on January 1, in anticipation of a 40% government levy on gross gaming revenue (GGR). However, casino operators can expect a reduction of up to 5% within the scope of the proposed gaming tax system, and such exemptions apply to GGRs caused by foreign players coming from mainland China, Macau, Hong Kong or Taiwan. 온라인경마

Adriano Marquez Ho, director of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, the city’s casino regulator, gave a press briefing Friday detailing Macau’s relevant administrative laws and recent gaming laws to implement the foreign player incentive policy.

According to the government, the cost of attracting foreign customers is high. It may require operators to “offshore offices, private jet services for certain high-end customers, and other support hotel services for them.”

Ho Game Inspection Coordinating Director also said 3.58% of total revenue of $36.5 billion in the year before the pandemic in 2019 was caused by foreign players. Thus, tax incentives were introduced to compensate casino operators for the cost of attracting foreign customers and raising Macau gambling to expected levels after 2019.
